ANSYS LS-DYNA software provides convenient and easy-to-use access to the technology-rich, time-tested explicit solver without the need to contend with the complex input requirements of this sophisticated program. Introduced in 1996, ANSYS LS-DYNA capabilities have helped customers in numerous industries to resolve highly intricate design issues.

ANSYS Mechanical users have been able take advantage of complex explicit solutions for a long time utilizing the traditional ANSYS Parametric Design Language (APDL) environment.

These explicit capabilities are available to ANSYS Workbench users as well. The Workbench platform is a powerful, comprehensive, easy-to-use environment for engineering simulation. CAD import from all sources, geometry cleanup, automatic meshing, solution, parametric optimization, result visualization and comprehensive report generation are all available within a single fully interactive modern graphical user environment.

The Workbench LS-DYNA user environment is available to all customers with an ANSYS LS-DYNA, ANSYS LS-DYNA PC and/or ANSYS LS-DYNA PrepPost license. It is a Workbench add-in module, available from the ANSYS Customer Portal. The module is less than 2M Bytes and can be installed in less than five minutes. Any previously used methods (MAPDL or LS-DYNA Export) are unaffected by the installation, so you can use them just as you always have.

Workbench LS-DYNA is the result of a collaborative effort between Livermore Software Technology Corporation (LSTC) and ANSYS. The ANSYS Customization Toolkit (ACT), an ANSYS product designed to enable customization of the user interface, was used to create Workbench LS-DYNA.

More recently, the powerful and comprehensive ANSYS Workbench environment has delivered bidirectional CAD connectivity, geometry cleanup tools, automatic meshing, extensive meshing tools for improving performance, and quick simple definition of initial and boundary conditions, to users of ANSYS LS-DYNA. The explicit dynamic file export feature provides all the power of ANSYS Workbench and produces an input file (.k) that is run by the LS-DYNA solver. The LS-PrePost program included with each installation provides a user-friendly yet powerful way to view the results of the simulation.
